In hydraulic systems, it's not uncommon for requirements to change over time. In situations where a hydraulic connection is no longer needed, a special component is used to reliably seal off the connection - the blind flange.
The blind flange is a type of flange that lacks a through-hole. This characteristic allows the blind flange to be mounted onto an existing flange connection, effectively sealing off the flow path. To install it, 2x flange halves are required.
